I just came about this deeply disturbing feature on Wired News: How Two Men Could Make a Baby.
Alright, let’s get this straight. I am not some whackjob anti-science fundamentalist. I grew up in California; I am perfectly fine with gay people. Hell, I am even for gay marriage. (Wait a second, aren’t I supposed to be right-wing? And the answer to that, my friends, is that I am 18 years old, and I am what I like to call a “Next-Generation Conservative.”)
But this! I don’t care what anybody else says, this is deeply disturbing. Babies aren’t supposed to be made this way! You can make the case that even in nature, we see homosexuality, but you can’t make the case that we ever see two male animals making a baby!
Go ahead, call me old-fashioned, even call me a bigot. But this isn’t an issue of freedom or equality. There’s no enshrined constitutional right to have a kid. (And if you want a kid, there’s this perfectly fine thing called adoption.) This is about a little tiny voice inside me that says this is just wrong and science will have gone too far if it does this.
Science shouldn’t do this. Period. I don’t care if I have no “rational” basis for this argument. I don’t need one, just like I don’t need any rational reason for thinking killing is wrong, not that those two are in any way morally equivalent. It just is, and I think most Americans will agree with me. However, by all means, leave a comment if you disagree.
i’m not sure if i’m on a disagree or an agree side just yet. it’s too soon to make any judgements . i want to respect you opinions when i say this: there is a possiblity in a good outcome in this matter. maybe not in america, but in other countries, females ability to give birth have been use as a form of oppression. there are less extremes measures in america, but it still exists in some way. like teen mothers are seen as sluts even though it takes two sides to commit an sexual act. male birth will give males their perspective and understanding of what pregnacy is all about. even though they male preg process isn’t instant or natural like females during a sex act doesn’t mean straight males can’t relate to the idea deeper once they see that male suffer from it.
if this is un-natural, the whole art of science is from the very beginning an un-natural thing.
the cynically view would be that this won’t change anything because males have gotten use to pushing the burden of birth to women, and they’re not going to take it now as a choice for the “possible” better gain in fair play.
still despite what i said, i still not decided yet , because i really don’t know what this can really do. it might just oppress males who get pregnant and nothing more. i want to optimistic and believe things to better than that because i want to stop the idea that women have more of chance to be abandon and view as a irresponsible one when things both parties made a mistake. again. it’s just optimistic and wishfull thinking. it could be possiblily viewed as unrelated to this matter as well.
so yeah, i do respect your views because it’s more realistic. i just wish it wasn’t so.
